Prevent another tragedy

The "Jeanne
Clery Act" is named in memory of 19-year-old Lehigh
University freshman Jeanne Ann Clery (pictured right) who
was raped and murdered while asleep in her residence hall
room on April 5, 1986.
Jeanne's parents, Connie and Howard, discovered that students
hadn't been told about 38 violent crimes on the Lehigh campus
in the three years before her murder. They joined with other
campus crime victims and persuaded Congress to enact this
law, which was originally known as the "Crime Awareness
and Campus Security Act of 1990".
Among other requirements, schools must make timely warnings
to the campus community about crimes that pose an ongoing
threat to students and employees. The Department of Education
can fine
schools that fail to comply.
Security On Campus, Inc., was founded by Jeannes parents
as the first national, not-for-profit organization dedicated
to the prevention of criminal violence at colleges and to
assisting campus victims nationwide.
In early 2006, Security on Campus, Inc. reviewed the e2Campus emergency notification
system and recognized it as a tool to help enforce the Clery Act. Catherine
C. Bath, Former Executive Director at Security on Campus said, e2Campus
is a practical way to boost public safety on and off the campus.
